Still encircled by its mighty ramparts, perched on a gentle promontory, and bathed in the golden light of Brie, <strong>Provins <\/strong>feels like a town frozen in time. Its authentic charm is best explored on foot, at a leisurely pace. A major hub at the crossroads of European trade routes, it hosted the <strong>renowed Champagne Fairs<\/strong>. Religious fervour drew thousands of <strong>pilgrims<\/strong>, and the pilgrims, in turn, attracted merchants. The <strong>Counts of Champagne<\/strong> then made <strong>Provins <\/strong>a showcase of their power: a fortified, organised, prosperous, and lively town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5e945078c5f0deb166c7308898602d85\">Une cit\u00e9 intacte, \u00e0 taille humaine\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, almost nothing has disappeared. In the upper town, known as <strong>Le Ch\u00e2tel<\/strong>, stand the main monuments: <strong>the Cesar Tower<\/strong>, rising proudly above the tiled roofs, a symbol of power, vigilance, and domination. Built in the 12th century, it still offers sweeping views over the entire city and the countryside stretching to the horizon. Just below, the unfinished yet imposing <strong>Saint-Quiriace Collegiate Church<\/strong>, with its luminous nave and oversized choir, reflects the ambitions of the Counts and the wealth of the past. These vaulted spaces were once used to store goods, tan leather, and prepare feasts. Today, visitors <strong>wander through the streets<\/strong> with cameras in hand, a blade of grass between their teeth, and stars in their eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9a48c23f5f8b104cbbaf1336699ed287\">A unique, lively and welcoming atmosphere<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What strikes visitors to <strong>Provins <\/strong>is its <strong>authenticity<\/strong>. This is not a village frozen in time for tourists, but a <strong>living town<\/strong>, inhabited and vibrant all year round. <strong>Provins <\/strong>does not try to recreate its past, it still lives it. The ramparts glow with soft light, the stone turns golden, and the narrow streets grow mysterious. It may be the perfect moment for dinner in an inn: soup by the fire, a glass of local wine, and a plate of <strong>Brie de Provins<\/strong>, the farmhouse cheese made here since the 13th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ec1a355b1684a18c4dde2b69eb0d275d\">Provins, in bloom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nestled in the Durteint Valley, just a stone\u2019s throw from the <strong>medieval heart of Provins<\/strong>, the <strong>Rose Garden <\/strong>is much more than a garden, it is a renaissance. Once a marshland, later a nursery, the site had fallen into abandonment before being revived in 2007 by <strong>Bruno Clergeot<\/strong>, a native of the region.
