In the heart of the town of Ussel, in the Corrèze region of France, the Château du Theil, a historic building dating back to 1120, is nestled in a six-hectare park. This monument, once the home of noble families, has seen many different eras: it served as a seminary, a hospital during the First World War, and a college. Today, it has been completely transformed into a four-star hotel, the fruit of an ambitious project led by Benoît Barrier, with the support of his father Bruno and childhood friend Francis Malaquis. The idea was to rehabilitate this forgotten monument in their town.
Renovation of the château, which began 5 years ago, is taking an eco-responsible approach, using bio-sourced materials in particular. The hotel will offer fourteen rooms, a Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded restaurant, a bar and a seminar room. The park will be open to events such as concerts, exhibitions and weddings, enriching the local cultural offering.
In addition, the estate will incorporate an innovative aquaponic greenhouse and seven unusual dwellings, such as troglodytes, scattered around the park, offering visitors a unique experience. Château du Theil thus promises to become a unique meeting point in France, combining history, comfort and sustainability, rooted in heritage and looking to the future.
