Florence is one of Tuscany’s most iconic cities. A favorite destination for art lovers, it is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and has inspired generations of famous Italians with its architecture and relaxed lifestyle. The city is truly a jewel of art and design, home to legendary monuments such as:

  • The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and its Duomo, still considered an architectural mystery.
  • The Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, home to the world’s largest collection of works by Donatello.
  • The Uffizi Gallery: undoubtedly one of the most beautiful museums in Italy, home to masterpieces by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and other great masters.
  • The Ponte Vecchio: the oldest bridge in the city, it also serves as a pedestrian walkway and shopping arcade. Visitors love strolling along it and capturing photos of its colorful facade, painted in shades of yellow, orange, green, and blue.

To prolong the pleasure, visitors to Florence often take a break at Piazzale Michelangelo at the end of the day. From here, they can admire the sunset over the Ponte Vecchio, the city, and the Arno River before returning to a charming hotel.

WHERE TO STAY IN FLORENCE?

Don’t miss a night (or more) at Francesco Cavallo’s Cellai Boutique Hotel in the historic center of Florence. The perfect way to unwind after a day strolling through the streets of the capital of the arts? A cocktail on the rooftop terrace, with stunning views over the city.

Umbria is the only region in central Italy without a coastline. Nicknamed the “green heart of Italy,” it lies between Rome and Florence and is an ideal place to discover Italian culinary specialties such as cured meats, wine, olive oil, and black truffles.

Gubbio: a medieval town in the heart of Italy

With its unique atmosphere, Gubbio is one of the oldest towns in Italy. As you wander through its maze of narrow streets and stairways, you’ll come across historic monuments such as the remains of its large Roman theatre and ancient palaces like the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, Palazzo dei Consoli, Palazzo Benvenuti, and the Museo di Palazzo Ducale. Between strolls, you can sample delicious Italian dishes made with white or black truffles, the famous baccalà alla ceraiola, or friccò, a hearty meat stew.

In Gubbio, Umbria, Tenuta Borgo Santa Cecilia is much more than a hotel and restaurant, it’s a restored medieval village nestled in unspoiled nature. This 320-hectare estate is home to a wide variety of wild animals, whose presence makes the experience truly unique.

Assisi: centre of spirituality and peace

Assisi, the birthplace and resting place of Saint Francis and Saint Clare, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nestled in the foothills of Mount Subasio, the city overlooks a vast expanse of green plains and rolling hills. Visitors come to admire the Basilicas of Saint Francis and Saint Clare, two architectural treasures that have profoundly influenced the course of art and architecture. In addition to these landmarks, travellers also explore the Rocca Maggiore, a medieval fortress perched on a promontory over 500 metres high, as well as the Town Hall Square and the Church of St. Peter.

We love staying with the Landrini family at Castello di Petrata, where you can experience authentic Italian hospitality in the heart of the Umbrian countryside. The outdoor pool and unspoiled natural setting make it the ideal place for a well-deserved relaxing break.

Perugia: The Charm of a Major Tourist City, Without the Crowds

Perugia, the capital of the Umbria region, is a city built on hillsides. It’s an ideal destination for lovers of art and gastronomy, whether for a day trip or a weekend escape. This charming small city can easily be explored on foot in a single day. What to see in Perugia? Don’t miss the Church of San Angelo, the Duomo, the Fontana Maggiore, a splendid fountain adorned with sculptures, and the National Archaeological Museum. And before you leave, be sure to sample some of the city’s specialties: artisan chocolate, Rubesco wine, and strangozzi, a traditional handmade pasta similar to fettuccine.

Orvieto

The city of Orvieto is divided into two parts: the old town perched atop the hill and the newer part below. You can move between the two by foot or via the funicular railway. No visit to Orvieto is complete without seeing its stunning cathedral, featuring vibrant mosaics on the façade and extraordinary frescoes by 15th-century Tuscan painter Luca Signorelli.

In addition to the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and other major attractions in Rome, visiting lesser-known sites is a must. These include the Roman Forum, the Palatine Hill, and the city’s many museums:

  • The Capitoline Museums, housed in the Palazzo Nuovo and the Palazzo dei Conservatori, are home to the famous bronze she-wolf with Romulus and Remus.
  • The Vatican Museums, where Egyptian, Roman, and Greek antiquities are on display,
  • Museums of ancient art: the Borghese Gallery, the Doria-Pamphilj Gallery.
  • The Museum of Modern Art with the National Gallery of Modern Art.

Don’t miss a visit to the Trastevere district to round off your trip. Bohemian and picturesque, it perfectly captures the dolce vita spirit that so many seek in Italy.
