Culinary specialities of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region
Jean-Marie Le Rest,
a chef with deep roots and broad horizons
Jean-Marie Le Rest cooked for ambassadors, prime ministers and renowned chefs before settling in the Rhône-Alpes region. Originally from Brittany, he is passionate about culture and exchange, and has spent his career travelling the world, working in Australia, Italy and French institutions.
He honed his skills everywhere he went, learning to work with the seasons, local markets, simple techniques and the right ingredients. Now at the helm of La Table du Gouverneur, he offers a straightforward cuisine rooted in the local terroir but inspired by other places.
His dishes pay homage to the clarity of flavours, to French produce enhanced by condiments or techniques gleaned from the other side of the world. Each bite tells the story of an encounter, each dish reconciles simplicity and elegance, tradition and curiosity.
« My inspiration comes from the field, the markets, and the people. I have learned to keep things simple without ever compromising on precision. »

Jean-Marie Le Rest, Chef at “La Table du Gouverneur” in Monthieux

Iconic story in Auvergne – Rhône-Alpes
Born from wood shavings and a spirit of innovation, Wood Light glasses embody the artisanal and committed soul of the Auvergne region. From unique pieces to capsule collections, they combine design, materials and memory.

Wood Light :
From branches to glasses
They spent their childhood surrounded by wood shavings in their grandfather’s carpentry workshop. In 2016, they met Thibault Randoin, an optician friend and founder of Optic Dôme, who gave Julien and Vincent Douzal, both trained engineers, the idea of designing wooden glasses that combine style, quality and ethics. Handcrafted using a multi-ply assembly technique – several layers of wood are glued together to ensure strength and lightness – in a workshop specialising in woodworking in Martres-de-Veyre in Auvergne, each pair of Wood Light glasses is unique and numbered, bearing the history of the wood used to make it: ash, oak, pear, walnut…
Customisable models – with a choice of veneer, lens colour and the option to engrave the arms with a date, word, design, etc. – delivered in a recycled cardboard box with a printed organic cotton pouch. Alongside its main line, the brand regularly develops special collections and collaborations: West Serie, with arms made from Landes pine needles; Champagne Mademoiselle Jeanne, made from wood sourced from the same oak barrel as a vintage Champagne Richard Boyer; Peak Serie, designed with Studio Joran Briand by upcycling production offcuts from Fusta skis, with a design inspired by old-fashioned glacier glasses, echoing the mountain spirit so dear to Wood Light.

When the founder met Adrien Descouls, Michelin-starred chef at the Origines restaurant in Puy de Dôme, the latter expressed his desire to have a pair of unique, French-made glasses. Their attachment to their region, Auvergne, and its volcanoes gave rise to the capsule collection Volcanic Series, sunglasses with a subtle contrast between wooden arms and a face featuring fragments of black Volvic stone encapsulated in crystal acetate.
